Should Trump be indicted for his role in the Jan. 6th insurrection?

I mean yes. He incited violence by saying things like "we are all going to take a walk down to the capital" and "you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong." Even if Trump facing criminal charges would not bar him from running in 2024, the outcome will be symbolic for American values and a turning point in our democracy, for better of for worse.

This isn't going to do anything but polarize the country further. If democrats are looking to win in 2024, what we need to actually focus on is capitalizing on the backlash from the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

So potential "political backlash" is worth sacrificing the fundamental principles of democracy that our country is built on?

Without the findings of the Jan 6 commission I would have agreed that prosecuting a former President would invite a backlash and could smell like political revenge, but the evidence is pretty clear that Trump actively incited an insurrection and tried to overthrow the democratically elected government. How can you not persecute this - this is at the very heart of our country?
