The FIFA 2022 World Cup should not have been given to Qatar
Agree
+-
It is too hot in Qatar and the shift to holding the world cup in November is disrupting all club play around the world
+-
This is 'sportswashing' as Qatar tries to wash away all its issues with a perfectly organized sports event, no matter the cost
+-
Just too much controversy on worker deaths, corruption, homophobic views that takes away from the 'beautiful game'.
+-
There are many illiberal regimes in the world, but what is different with the Qatar soccer World Cup is that many (reportedly, but never confirmed, several thousand) migrant workers died building the stadiums for the world cup. Not giving the World Cup to a country that is not brutally hot and that needs to build eight new stadiums that nobody needs after a month is definitely not the way to go!
Disagree

If Qatar is willing to spend $200B or $300B on the World Cup to build more infrastructure and stadiums, even though nobody will use it going forward, that it still their decision.
+-
With all its political flaws, it is great that the World Cup is finally being held in an Arab country! There is genuine excitement in the region about this, which is a positive.
+-
Qatar is just as good as most places in the world. If you take a purist approach, then the world cup and the olympics would have to rotate between Stockholm, Oslo and Vancouver every time!
+-
FIFA is one of the most corrupt organizations in the world, so illicit payments prior to awarding the World Cup to a country has happened before, so nothing new or special with Qatar!
