LOCKHORNS

Is it justified that Black Americans are very hesitant to get the COVID-19 vaccine?

The black community has had a horrible relationship with the US healthcare system since its inception (e.g. the infamous Tuskegee syphilis study that withheld treatment from hundreds of Black men for decades to let doctors track the course of the disease). Also, even before the creation of the US healthcare system, enslaved people were subject to maltreatment, such as the forced sterilizations of Black women

Not justified. Every unvaccinated person puts the community in harm's way.

Sure, there is some horrible history of treatment of the the black community in the US health system, but the covid-19 vaccines are a different story. They have been tested in large clinical trials on people from all races, they are 95%+ effective and they have shown minimal side-effects. Israel and now the US are showing that higher degree of vaccination is the only way to defeat covid!
